Cancelled Racing Due to Air Quality Concerns

The 2022 Belmont Stakes, scheduled to take place at Belmont Park on Long Island, New York, was cancelled on Thursday due to poor air quality resulting from wildfires in Canada.

Resumed Racing on Friday

Racing at Belmont Park resumed on Friday, after a temporary suspension due to the air quality concerns. The Belmont Stakes, however, remains cancelled.

Belmont Park Construction Impact

The cancellation of the Belmont Stakes is also due to ongoing construction at Belmont Park. The facility is undergoing a major renovation, and the track surface is not currently suitable for racing.

Alternative Race Date and Location

The New York Racing Association (NYRA) has announced that the Belmont Stakes will be rescheduled for Saturday, July 16, 2022. The race will be held at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York.
